Duck Hunting: A Truly Seamless Experience
Duck hunting at Camp Orion is unlike any other. Our "show up and duck hunt" approach means that all you have to do is pull the trigger. We take care of the rest. Our commitment to grooming the ponds throughout the year, building and dressing the blinds, planting hundreds of pounds of millet and rice, and providing the decoys ensures that your duck hunting experience is as productive as it is enjoyable.
Several blinds are conveniently located within a 5-minute walk from the lodge, making it easy to transition from comfort to action. As part of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Texas Prairie Wetlands and Ducks Unlimited project, our 9 meticulously managed ponds attract a diverse range of duck species.
Active habitat management integrates almost two decades of on-property expertise, including the annual planting of hundreds of pounds of millet and rice seed. For those looking to add a touch of adventure to their hunting experience, our 1.5 miles of cleared bayou shoreline offers an exceptional venue for hunting wood ducks on the bayou, fishing, and exploring. The bayou frontage and our 3-acre bass pond, as well as the catfish pond behind the cabin, provide year-round fishing amenities and additional native waterfowl habitat.
Camp Orion takes care of the ducky habitat, blinds, and decoys – you simply show up with your gun, license, and waders and hunt. Annual Members also have the option to bring their own container for storing personal UTVs and gear.
Alligator Hunting: A Thrill Like No Other
For the more adventurous, Camp Orion offers the opportunity to participate in alligator hunting. Annual Members may enter the lottery for tags, possibly adding to their boot collection with this adrenaline-pumping experience. Our carefully managed alligator hunts provide a unique and memorable adventure for those who seek the thrill of the hunt.
