At Camp Orion, we're not just passionate about providing exceptional hunting experiences; we're dedicated to preserving the natural environment and promoting ethical hunting practices. To ensure everyone's safety, the well-being of our wildlife, and the quality of your adventures, we have established a set of rules for the hunting season. Let's dive into these guidelines that are crucial to maintaining the integrity of our outdoor pursuits.
Rule 1: Respect the Sanctuary of Non-Hunting Days
Please DO NOT drive around the property (ponds) during non-hunting (rest days) during the hunting season. Instead, try to limit property traffic to the lodge area, bass pond, and shooting area. This practice is essential to provide waterfowl with safe resting and feeding areas during non-hunting days. By reducing disturbances, we encourage them to develop a pattern of returning to Camp Orion without being disrupted or frightened off the ponds.
Rule 2: Hog and Dove Hunting
Hog and Dove hunting are only allowed during the scheduled hunting days on the property, not during rest days unless specifically approved by our Land Manager, Billy. This rule helps us manage and maintain the balance of wildlife populations while ensuring safety during non-hunting periods.
Rule 3: Preserve Our Deer Population
Deer hunting is NOT ALLOWED on Camp Orion property. Our property has limited deer, and we aim to see their numbers increase. By refraining from deer hunting, we contribute to the preservation and growth of this magnificent species.
Rule 4: Protect Pond Levees
Please DO NOT drive vehicles other than UTVs/four-wheelers around pond levees when it's muddy and wet. This simple act preserves the integrity of pond levees, preventing ruts and maintaining their condition for everyone to enjoy.
Rule 5: Duck Hunting Hours
No duck hunting is allowed past 12 pm unless approved by Land Manager (Billy). This rule ensures that hunting activities remain within reasonable hours, minimizing disturbances to both waterfowl and fellow hunters.
Rule 6: Ethical Duck Hunting Practices
Please try to let the ducks work into your decoys or within a reasonable distance from the hunting blind (less than 50 yards) - NO SKY BLASTING. Shooting at ducks beyond 50 yards is discouraged as it often results in wounded birds and disrupts the natural patterns of waterfowl. Ethical hunting means giving ducks a fair chance and a humane harvest.
